Brosset, Pablo.
Multiple changes have been described since 2008 in the Gulf of Lions ecosystem and particularly in small pelagic fish dynamic. In particular, the two main exploited species, i.e. anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus) and sardine (Sardina pilchardus) are now smaller and in poor condition while a third species, the sprat (Sprattus sprattus) strongly increased in terms of biomass and abundance. This PhD thesis investigated these changes through the analysis of small pelagic fish body condition (i.e individual energy stores) variations, its causes and consequences. Anchovy and sardine body condition was optimal in 2005 and 2006 and decreased after 2008 to remain steady at low level since 2010. Moreover, older sardine have particularly displayed poor body condition...

ArchiMer
Brind'Amour, Anik; Delaunay, Damien.
The Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), adopted in June 2008, recommends Member States to adopt an ecosystemic approach to manage the marine environment. By this directive, France aims to achieve a good environmental status (GES) described by 11 descriptors, of its marine waters by 2020. Descriptor 1 stipulates that biological diversity is maintained. The quality and occurrence of habitats and the distribution and abundance of species are in line with prevailing physiographic, geographic and climate conditions (European Commission Decision 2017/848/UE). The ecosystem components of fish and cephalopods must be assessed in the four marine subregions (“English Channel – North Sea”, “Celtic seas”, “Bay of Biscay” and “Western Mediterranea”). The...

Integrating taxon-based, trait-based and trophic-network approaches to study community dynamics in an exploited ecosystem, the Celtic Sea ArchiMer
Merillet, Laurene.
Marine ecosystems face many pressures, the main ones being fishing and climate change. These pressures do not have the same consequences on the different facets of biodiversity, e.g. on taxa, traits and networks, and their study is necessary for the implementation of an ecosystem approach to fisheries. The Celtic Sea is a very important fishing area for European fisheries, with a specific richness greater than adjacent areas. Based on a time series from 2000 to 2016, I have studied the spatio-temporal dynamics of 101 species of the ecosystem. Over this period, taxonomic biodiversity was stable, and the importance of fishing as a structuring variable for communities decreased after 2009, and was lower than the environment (depth, chlorophyll a concentration...
